Successful iPod Touch Jailbreak (at last!)

Just like other early adapters, I was frustrated when Apple decided to bill $19.99 for the January Software Upgrade of iPod Touch, more so because the iTunes Store is not available here in the Philippines even if we do have the bucks to dole out.

Now here's my iPod Touch jailbreak story.

I had upgraded my Ipod firmware to 1.1.3 a day after it came out. I used ziphone(made primarily for the iPhone) since it seems to be the easiest method available. right. When ziphone came out I was thrilled (no more downgrading-jailbreak-upgrade etc.). I was uncertain at first to use version 1.0, as I too was expecting that bugs should appear and wait for further comments about the method. (read: ipodtouchfans.com - best site for touch owners)

Fast forward to ziphone 2.4. I thought that now was a good time to try.

First day.
List my steps:
1) Download ziphone 2.4. Unzipped the contents.
2) Closed iTunes, stopped AppleMobileDevice, IpodService and ItunesHelper services.
3) Get Ipod Touch to recovery mode (turn off ipod then press sleep/wake + home for 4 secs then release sleep/wake OR use IPHUC type: enterrecovery)
4) Open ziphoneGUI.exe, tick Jailbreak and verbose checkbox.
5) Click START.

....
Spamming AT, waiting for response...

After 1 hour!

clicked "STOP(kill ziphone)", restart, nope, restart, Apple logo, restart, Apple logo...
Itunes cannot detect my iPod, dang. whew, i was thinking "what did i do wrong, maybe because my ipod's almost full, maybe i should use itunes 7.5, etc.", I guess i was too lazy to try again.

if ( me == frustrated && me == tired) {

}

Second day.
List of my steps:
2) Download
ziphone 2.3. Unzipped the contents
3) DFU mode (itunes logo + plug screen), restore to 1.1.3 using itunes. wait..
4) Configure ipod as new ipod, did'nt use the restore from last backup option.
5) Get Ipod Touch to recovery mode
6) Open ziphoneGUI.exe, tick Jailbreak and verbose checkbox.
7) Click START.

....
Spamming AT, waiting for response...Whaaaat?

Third day.
1) DFU mode (itunes logo + plug screen), restore to 1.1.3 using itunes. wait..
2) Get Ipod Touch to recovery mode
3) Unzipped
ziphone 1.0. (yeah, the first version)
4) Open ziphoneGUI.exe, tick Jailbreak and verbose checkbox.
5) Click START. restart - NO CHANGES! - Restart - Viola! installer.app lives!!

YATTA! next thing to do is install the BSD subsystem BEFORE installing other apps...

Specs:
8GB iPod Touch (OOB firmware 1.1.2)
iTunes 7.6
Windows XP sp2
Ziphone 1.0

I know the story's too long, just hope it would help others. thanks to zibree, slylarEC, teslanaut and to all members of ipodtouchfans.com.
